What sets Zoya apart from other nail polishes?
Unlike other nail lacquers, Zoya does not contain Formaldehyde, Toluene, or Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP). Why is this important to consumers? Because the Environmental Working Group ( www.ewg.org), the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association ( www.ctfa.org), and the US National Cancer Institute ( www.cancer.gov) have issued cautions and warnings about their potential to cause laukemia, brain cancer, liver damage, skin and respiratory irritation, and reproductive risks such as reduced foetal weight, bone deficiencies and deformities. Formaldehyde has been banned from cosmetic products in Sweden and Japan, while Toluene has tagged in the State of California (USA) as a "reproductive toxin". In Australia the subject of ingredient safety is not well publicised. Most consumers believe that if a product is available for sale in a shop it will be safe for them to use.
According to The National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) which provides information on the types and amounts of pollutants being emitted in the Australian community, inhalation exposure to Dibutyl Phthalate at high levels may include irritation of the eyes, nose and throat. It may cause nausea, tearing of the eyes, vomiting, dizziness and headache. Long term exposures may cause liver and kidney damage. Dibutyl phthalate may harm the developing foetus and the male testes (Reference www.npi.gov.au/database/substance-info/profiles/32.html).
